Quartu Sant'Elena is a nice city situated in south Sardinia, at about 6 Km from Cagliari.
The coast is rich in white sandy and rocky beaches, but the city is famous for the old centre, characterized by the Church of Sant'Elena, which dates 1788 and built on a previous Catalan Church of XVI century, Sa Domu 'e Farra (= the house of flour, an ancient house made over into a museum, the Church of San Pietro in Ponte ( of Byzantine more... origin and refurbished in the XII century), the Church of Santa Maria di Cepola, where there are some medieval and baroque pictures.
The city offers some important folc events,such as the Sciampitta ( an international show on July), the festivity of Sant'Elena, who is the patron saint of the city, in the middle of September with a lot of shows, religious cerimonies and so on.
A good place for shopping is the shopping center "Le Vele" and "Millenium", with a lot of shops, multiplex, McDonald's, Bowling, restaurants, pizzeria and so on.
Every Wednesday there is in via San Benedetto the local street market, where it is possible to buy everything: from food to clothes, from houseware to animals. less
